GS Academy Hosted Its Annual VIP Camp Last Week

GS Academy Hosted Its Annual VIP Camp Last Week

Last week GS Academy hosted it’s annual VIP camp for children living in and outside Beijing. It’s a special camp where children aged 10 – 19 years old lived on site at Crab Island Holiday Resort for the week playing four hours of tennis each day for six days. They played two hours every morning and two hours in the afternoon. Here the children not only learnt the fundamentals of how to play tennis but learned how to work together as a team, develop there motor skills, play points, improve fitness, have fun, and practice English by socializing with the coaches. In the free time between all the tennis the children would utilize the many activities available on site such as the swimming pool, fishing, video games, climbing bridges, table tennis, pool tables and rides. So it was a week full of much activity and fun.

If you are interested in a similar program or would like us to create a camp especially for you please contact our office.

Report of 2010 Li-Ning Prince Cup Stage Two

Congratulations to all GS Academy players for competing in stage two of the Li-Ning Prince Cup at Potter’s Wheel. A special mention goes to Clara Falxa who out of our players reached the furthest round in the tournament. Clara made it to the last round where the long day took it’s toll on her physically and mentally tiring her. We’re sure she will go one better next time.

This was a great learning experience for our players. Now the players know exactly what weaknesses need to be addressed before the next tournament. Thank you to all the parents for the support and patience during the tournament. It definitely was a long day but it was well worth it!

Until the next tournament, work hard and we hope to see some more good results in the near future.

Philip Competes in Futures in Korea

GS Academy’s, Philip Meyer recently competed in a Futures ($15,000) tournament in Seogwipo, Korea. After beating Min-Seok Song in the first round of qualifying 6-2 6-4 he was defeated 6-4 6-4 by the 15th seed Seung-Jae Lee. Seung-Jae previously ranked as high 1,148 ATP knows how to win matches as he was down 3-0 in both sets but used his experience to get the better of Philip. Philip has done well for himself for his first Futures tournament and is showing good promise.

He now looks to visit the US soon to see some college prospects as he prepares himself for tennis and life in the US university system.

2010 Vernon and Philip’s Trip to Australia and Thailand

Philip's Backhand Volley

GS Academy would like to welcome Vernon back from Australia and Thailand where he took Philip Meyer (SUI) to train and gain valuable tournament experience.

In Philip’s 1st round match at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Center, home of the Medibank International ATP event he decisively took apart his opponent in straight sets. Even though he was looking forward to continuing his form here wet weather settled in to cause a wash out of the tournament.

In another event at the same venue he lost to the 9th seed in a valiant fight saving two match points with winners of his own. Inevitably it was not enough to stop the momentum of his opponent. However, it was great experience for him as he looks forward to going to college in the US this year.

After Australia it was off to sunny Bangkok where it was hot and intense during trainings with Paul Dale, former Davis Cup and National coach of Thailand. Here Philip mixed it up training with some of the best juniors in Asia. Even the college scouts gave favorable responses to the way he played.

With GS Academy’s training and guidance as his foundation, we are sure that Philip will do well in college and with his tennis.

Vernon & Philip

We wish him all the best.
